Highway 59 to Atchison, Kansas has reopened.

The Missouri Department of Transportation reports it has opened one lane of U.S. Route 59 in southern Buchanan County, closed to traffic since September 24th when flooding forced its closure. Floodwaters remain over the other lane.

A temporary traffic signal has been put up to direct traffic between Rushville and Atchison, over the Amelia Earhart Bridge.

In addition, U.S. Route 65 has reopened near Carrollton.

MoDOT reports Highway 65 between U.S. Route 24 in Carrollton to Waverly has reopened to traffic after being closed due to flooding since October 2nd. MoDOT cautions drivers to continue to monitor conditions, because the area remains prone to flooding.

MoDOT says motorists should never try to drive through water over the roadway and should not drive around barricades. A few inches of water can carry a car away. Motorists cannot tell the condition of pavement underneath the floodwaters.
