The National Weather Service reported that 16 Missourians died as a result of tornadoes in 2025, the highest tornado-related deaths in the state since the 2011 Joplin tornado. Additionally, there were three deaths related to flooding and one death related to a severe thunderstorm. The Missouri State Emergency Management highlighted that 2025 was the deadliest tornado-related year in 14 years, with 12 deaths occurring after a 19-tornado outbreak on March 15. The release comes ahead of Missouri’s Severe Weather Preparedness Week in 2026, emphasizing the importance of being prepared for severe weather events.
