Dozens of brave participants took the plunge into icy waters this weekend during the annual Polar Plunge benefiting Special Olympics Missouri.
The event moved this year to the beach at Mozingo Lake, replacing the traditional ice bath setup. Organizers say the change was made after low turnout at pool venues, noting the beach offers more space and a more inviting atmosphere.
Plungers said they liked the new location — but added the lake water was much colder than past events.
Safety crews and EMTs were on standby as 48 participants braved the cold, raising about $13,000.
