The long-awaited indoor pool facility project at the YMCA is about to begin as ground will be broken tomorrow on the area near the North Village Shoppes.

St. Joseph City Manager Mike Schumacher says he hopes people come out to the groundbreaking event and see what the YMCA has in store with the new facility

“Tammy and that entire YMCA group have done a fantastic job and it’s world class, it is incredible,” Schumacher says on the KFEQmunnity show. “For folks who had thoughts about this partnership and collaboration and the direction that we ultimately went as it pertains to a swimming pool, man once you see it, I really think that will help a lot of folks understand that something of that magnitude and that size, was unachievable without collaboration and without partnerships.”

Schumacher says for the community this facility will be incredible.

“Outdoor swimming pools are really only in use for 75 days a year, and on those 75 days you’re also weather dependent so it could be less, where this option is so to speak 365 days a year, you’ll be able to use it,” Schumacher explains. “And, once again, it’s a facility that the city alone could have never been able to build and afford to build, so it’s an exciting time for the residents of St. Joseph, and the surrounding area, and the YMCA.”

The groundbreaking will be held tomorrow at 1pm at the YMCA building near the North Village Shoppes at 3601 North Village Drive.
