Starting Monday, April 6, the Missouri Department of Transportation will begin a multi-phase infrastructure project on Interstate 29 in Buchanan County.

Herzog Contracting Corp. has been tapped to replace the approaches to the Pigeon Creek and Bee Creek bridges and resurface a nearly nine-mile stretch of the interstate, running from mile marker 39.8 down to the Platte County line at mile marker 31.

Initial operations will focus on rebuilding the outside shoulders at both the Pigeon Creek and Bee Creek approaches. Once the shoulders are prepped, crews will replace the bridge approaches, completing all southbound lanes before shifting focus to the northbound side. Following the bridge work, teams are scheduled to begin the asphalt resurfacing portion of the project in August 2026.

Commuters traveling through this corridor should prepare for notable traffic impacts throughout the spring and summer. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane with a strict 11-foot width restriction in place, meaning motorists should anticipate significant delays.

The entire project is slated for completion by mid-October 2026, though all timelines are weather-permitting and subject to change.
