Spring time yard cleanup time is here as the City of St. Joseph will host Open Burning through April for residents to burn dry yard waste within the city limits.

Open burning is allowed between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm. All fires must be in a container no larger than 55 gallons and only one container can be burned at a time per residence. Only things such as leaves, brush, and logs may be burned during this time.

If you do burn, make sure to have someone watching the fire at all times, and also have fire fighting materials like a garden hose or bucket of water near the fire. Fires must be at least 15 feet away from any buildings.

If weather conditions are not suitable, such as high winds, Open Burning would be canceled for the day. The St. Joseph Fire Department will respond to any open burning calls as a non-emergency.
