
ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating a suspect for an alleged assault.
Just after 8:30p.m. February 7, police responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 1400 block Santa Fe Street in Atchison, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson. An investigation determined that a disturbance had occurred around 10p.m. on Thursday night involving three people who reside together at the residence.
During the disturbance 63-year-old Nena Dempsey had threatened the other two residents with a handgun and subsequently locked the two, a 56-year-old man and 66-year-old woman, in a bedroom where they remained throughout the night. Dempsey is also charged with striking the 66-year-old woman in the face multiple times on Friday morning.
Police arrested Dempsey on requested charges of aggravated assault, criminal restraint, and battery and booked her into the county jail. She remains in custody on a $50,000 bond, according to online jail records.
