The Benton Cardinals girls team fell short in a state semifinal rematch Wednesday morning, losing to defending champion Doniphan 52-42 in Class 4 action.

Benton led 37-31 entering the fourth quarter, but Doniphan rallied, holding the Cardinals to just five points in the final period to secure the comeback win.

The loss drops Benton to 22-8 on the season.

The Cardinals will now play for third place this morning against Cardinal Ritter, with tipoff scheduled for 10 a.m.
