The Soles for Christ program, sponsored by AFL-CIO Community Services, is seeking donations for new shoes for children before the upcoming school year. Originating as an outreach project by Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, the program has distributed over 19,949 pairs of shoes since its inception in 2003. Many children in Andrew, Buchanan, Clinton, DeKalb, and Doniphan counties receive their only new shoes of the school year through this program. The 2026 distribution event will take place on August 10th and 11th at the Scottish Rite Temple, with donations accepted at the AFL-CIO office. Volunteers can sign up online, and inquiries can be directed to Ashley Luthans via email.
